Product Name & Packaging
Brand Name: KERN DIAZEPAM
Generic Name: Diazepam
Strength & Packaging: 30 × 10 mg tablets per box. Diazepam tablets are commonly marketed in 2 mg, 5 mg, and 10 mg strengths.

Description
Diazepam is a benzodiazepine with anxiolytic, sedative, muscle-relaxant, and anticonvulsant properties. It is used under medical supervision for selected anxiety-related, neurologic, and musculoskeletal conditions.

Indications
Diazepam is indicated for the management of anxiety disorders or the short-term relief of anxiety symptoms. It is also used in acute alcohol withdrawal, as an adjunct for skeletal muscle spasm, and as an adjunct in certain seizure disorders.

Dosage & Administration
Dosage should be individualized based on the indication, patient age, and clinical response. Standard oral dosing references commonly include 2 mg to 10 mg, 2 to 4 times daily for anxiety-related conditions; 10 mg, 3 or 4 times during the first 24 hours for acute alcohol withdrawal, then reduced as needed; and 2 mg to 10 mg, 3 or 4 times daily for muscle spasm or as adjunctive therapy in convulsive disorders. Elderly or debilitated patients generally require lower initial doses.

Mechanism of Action
Diazepam enhances the activity of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), an inhibitory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system. This produces its anxiolytic, sedative, anticonvulsant, and muscle-relaxant effects.

Precautions
Diazepam should be used with caution in elderly or debilitated patients and in those with hepatic impairment, respiratory compromise, depression, sleep apnea, or a history of substance misuse. Concomitant use with opioids, alcohol, or other CNS depressants may increase the risk of profound sedation, respiratory depression, coma, and death. Diazepam is also associated with abuse, dependence, and withdrawal risks.

Side Effects
Common adverse effects may include drowsiness, fatigue, muscle weakness, ataxia, dizziness, and impaired coordination. Falls, fractures, dependence, and withdrawal-related effects may occur, particularly in vulnerable patients or with prolonged use.

Storage
Store at controlled room temperature in a tightly closed container, protected from excessive heat, moisture, and light. Keep out of reach of children and follow the manufacturer’s labeled storage instructions.
